Use Case

Active monitoring of holdings positions

Company profile – an international fund manager who needs a flexible way to access security positions of the portfolios under their management (e.g. Traded and Settled positions).  At the same time, the fund may have further appointed another investment advisor who needs to access the same information.

Enhanced Trade Exception Handling

The challenge

Asset owner and asset manager clients require real time and accurate reporting on  portfolios that they manage in order to facilitate their investment decisions.  They also need positions to be reported in an appropriate way (e.g. settled position)  to ensure that  back- end operations can reconcile internal system records.
Relying on SWIFT as the traditional method can be cumbersome in meeting  timely data supply requirements which heavily depend on system straight through processing (STP), where data availability is often limited by SWIFT / ISO standards.

The solution

The fund manager can integrate HSBC Securities Services Global Custody Holdings API within their own systems in order to obtain access to real-time holdings positions (both traded and settled) in their accounts where they have active trades. This will allow clients to make a more informed decision where they need to make investment decision on available positions.  Our APIs enable the fund manager to access the entire portfolio that they are managing in real time. Additional access rights can be set up for other investment advisors, if a Power of Attorney (POA) is granted by the fund.

To help the fund manager in the reconciliation of internal system records, APIs can feed portfolio data in traded positions in addition to settled positions.

Benefits

  • Instant access to portfolio data per the fund manager’s specific needs and requirements.
  • An easy and more efficient way to consume position data.
  • Greater variety of data availability in comparison to SWIFT.
  • Greater flexibility to include additional data not limited by ISO/SWIFT standards.
